Hello my name is Nicole Lane and welcome to my professional and creative portfolio. I am currently a senior (graduating in December 2015) at Kansas State University majoring in agricultural communications and journalism with a minor in animal science.
I currently work at the Kansas Department of Agriculture as a communications intern and as the graphic communications assistant for K-State Research and Extension in addition to freelancing. This summer I will be an editorial intern with the Angus Journal.
Originally I hail from John Day, a small ranching community nestled in the Strawberry Mountains of Eastern Oregon. My passion for agriculture stems from a small sheep operation that my sister and I started and through my involvement in the National FFA Organization. I’m so fortunate that my love for this industry has taken me all over, from China to Ireland (and soon to Brazil!) to my new home here in Kansas and I can’t wait to see the places it takes me next.
I chose a career in agriculture for the same reason I chose Kansas State University, because of the people and the culture. There is no other industry that has such rich values, does more for this planet or makes me feel at home like the agriculture community. During my year of service as an Oregon FFA State Officer, I realized I had a passion for sharing agriculture with others. When this passion met my love for writing, a bond was formed that will never be broken, I became an agriculture communicator.
My goal is to share the message of food and agriculture, to communicate to our consumers and among our community members. I strive to share the science, the tradition, innovation, and the stories of our industry in creative and new ways. Please use my portfolio to view some of the work I have done so far and feel free to contact me with any questions or opportunities.
